"America Needs Baldrige!" Day

Please join us on Thursday, September 8th to let our New Hampshire Congressional Delegation know that

There is currently no funding for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program in the proposed 2012 budget.   The main reason for this is that the value and impact of the program is not understood.  It is unfortunately seen as an "Awards Program" and not as the ultimate resource for efficiency and high performance in all of our organizations.  If anything, we need more Baldrige to support the country in managing our fiscal challenges.  While it is reasonable to take a close look at the Program to understand if changes in how it is managed are warranted, a sudden cut in the funding will cost the country more than the approximate $10m budget.  Remember that the Baldrige Program is a public-private partnership that engages thousands of volunteers to support high performance in our schools, hospitals, government, nonprofits, and businesses.

What can each of us do?

  • go to www.congress.org
  • Enter your home zip code (and street address if requested)
  • Click on each of your elected officials to get their contact information
  • On Thursday, September 8th, between 9am and 6pm call, fax, and/or email your senators and congress member.  The best message you can provide is your personal insight to the value of Baldrige.

Two years ago BAE Systems shared its robust planning process with us.  Join us for this Learning and Sharing Event to hear an update on this process as well as to learn about two other BAE System best practices:

A Best Practice Update: The Grappone Collision Center

The GSQC and the Granite State ASQ section present a special best practices update from the Grappone Collision Center.

Eighteen months ago the Grappone Collision Center shared how use of the Toyota Production System (TPS) improved efficiency with benefits to both customers and the workforce.  Earlier this year, the Center moved to a new location that is one third the size and provides three times the efficiency.  Join us at the Grappone Collision Center as General Manager, Amanda Grappone Osmer and her team update us on their best practice journey; the changes they have made to a Lean environment, the obstacles encountered, the benefits already realized and next steps.

There is no cost for the presentation and tour.   We also invite you to join us for dinner afterwards at the Common Man in Concord from 5:45 - 7pm.   Reservations for dinner are required and can be made when registering for the presentation.  The cost of dinner is $25 payable by check or cash at the door.

The Granite State Quality Council invites you to join us for a multi-media presentation and discussion of the best of the best practices of the 2010 and previous Baldrige Award Recipients.  These role model organizations have demonstrated financial success through an ability to engage employees and customers [or as appropriate students or patients], and through highly effective and efficient processes.

 

Your goal need not to become a world class or an industry leader for you to gain ideas and insights for your own organization.  We've made the event efficient for your time; boiling 2 days of presentations into about an hour, and will have opportunities for more in-depth learning if interested.

 

 

You will also have time to meet and network with colleagues interested in organizational performance improvement to learn from their performance improvement experiences.

 

This event is open to anyone wanting to learn more about the best practices of the highest performing orgizations in the country and how these practices may apply to their environment.  There is no charge to attend, but please register so that we may get an accurate count

Seven U.S. Organizations Honored with the 2010 Baldrige National Quality Award

 Three Small Businesses Chosen for the First Time in a Single Year

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has announced that seven organizations are recipients of the 2010 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's highest presidential honor for performance excellence through innovation, improvement and visionary leadership. This marks the first year that three small businesses have been selected at one time and only the second instance in the award's 23-year history that a total of seven organizations are being honored.

These seven organizations will present their best practices and lessons learned at the 23rd annual Quest for Excellence in early April.  The GSQC will hold its annual overview of the best practices of these organziations in late April or early May as part of its 2011 Learning and Sharing series.
